DIGITAL PAINTINGS

Olivia Colman

WORKING DIGITALLY

These illustrations (with the exception of Alan Carr, which is a hybrid) are done entirely on the computer. I use a Wacom stylus, Photoshop, and sometimes free software with good brush options like Inkscape.

My favorite style is what you see here with this Olivia Colman drawing, as well as most of the portraits below: There are plenty of shadows and highlights, but they are painted on roughly, without being blended in.

You can see some examples of blended shadows toward the bottom of the page, with Andrew Scott, Paterson Joseph, and Lee Mack.

And lastly, sometimes I go for a minimalist approach which has no shadows or highlights: It's flat. Look at the Julia Davis drawing below for a good example of that technique.
